This article is useful for all gCast users and explains the different opt-out methods available in gCast.
In this article:
By default, gCast includes an unsubscribe footer in every email that is sent from the platform. gCast users can also include an opt-out link or tag in the content of their emails by selecting either of these options from the 'Personalised Field' drop-down in the content editor.
How the opt-out functionality behaves is governed by a setting that our team can administer for you and also expose in your campaigns if you have campaigns for different purposes that might need a slightly different approach.
As the unsubscribe link is part of gCast's core functionality, anyone can use the unsubscribe feature - in fact, as a default setting, all campaigns include an unsubscribe link - this helps you to stay compliant with anti-spam legislation around the world.
Changing the standard behaviour of how the unsubscribe functionality operates is only available to the gCast team but making a change can be done quickly and doesn't take very long.
The opt-out behaviours you can choose from are Immediate, Verified, and Preference Centre
Immediate opt-out is the default setting for all gCast accounts. When a recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in an email, their browser will display a splash screen from gCast notifying them that they've been opted out. The recipient will also receive an email confirming their opt-out. This email contains a link where they can opt back in again if they choose.
When a recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in an email, their browser will display a splash screen from gCast notifying them that their opt-out is not yet complete and that they will receive an email to verify their opt-out request. The recipient will receive a follow up email containing a link that opens the opt-out page in their browser where they can choose their opt-out preferences.
Preference Centre opt-out is the newest opt-out functionality of the three, introduced in May 2018 to assist clients with GDPR compliance, although this is not the only application for the Preference Centre opt-out functionality.
When a recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in an email, their browser opens directly onto the opt-out page where they can choose their opt-out preferences.
